1/2 year... where did the time go?

Jacob turned 6 months last week, half of his first year has already come and gone?!  Sitting up, rolling around the room & watching the craziness of our household are his favorite daily adventures.  Eating is true enjoyment for him, both nursing and simple solids... He even has the cute baby pudge to show for it! This is one of my favorite stages, he is so lively and thirsty to learn new things.  He just got a new tooth and talks all the time!

dishwashing 101

I have never had such an appreciation for an appliance until it broke on me... 3 times that is!  Our dishwasher (newly purchased less than 2 1/2 years ago!!) stopped working around Thanksgiving and was fixed once only to run a complete cycle 2 times.  It was fixed again and then the day before Christmas Eve it stopped working again.  I guess we got to see how our grandparents used to entertain because that week we just so happened to have 5 large family/friends gatherings, all with no dishwasher.  I certainly have the dry hands to show for it.  Yesterday when I was able to load the dishwasher for the first time, I have never been so grateful to have such a simple chore!

Cousins, Great Grandma Poach & Auntie Connie

We were blessed with the visit of my brother, sister-in-law and 4 kiddos for five days!  Yes you heard that right, their 4 kids + our 3 kids= 7 kids all 8 and under and the 6 younger ones are all boys!!!  Our kids had a blast playing with their cousins and suprisingly everyone played very well together!  Things got a little noisy and messy, but it was all in good fun.

Another group attempt, there was a funny theme going on as we took many of this same pose...  The 2 older kids looked very poised, Nathanial kept getting watery eyes from the flashes, Josh and Luke had some kind of argument going on (look at Luke's expressions!), Kyle screamed the whole time, and Jacob was happy as can be!

It was so cute to see how Cari reading to the boys, calmed them down so quickly- Thank you Cari!

During their visit, my Grandma Poach & Aunt Connie came to visit from CA.  It was so nice to them and have them meet the 3 littlest great grand children from my mom's family!  Here is a picture with Great Grandma and all of the kids except Jacob. 

Thank you all for coming to visit, we enjoyed all of your company!  We can't wait to see everyone again ;)!

Our family festives continued on Christmas morning with my parents coming over to watch the kiddos open their presents and to later welcome my brother's family with brunch.

Christmas Eve with Mike's Fam

Traditionally we have a family gathering with pasole and tamales at Mike's grandma's house for Christmas Eve and this year was no exception except we enjoyed pizza instead of the traditional New Mexican food to keep everything simple after the long weeks following his uncle's funeral.  We had a special visist from Santa (aka Uncle Donnie) for the little kids and we also celebrated Uncle Donnie's 50th birthday.

I was so fun to see Mike's teen & preteen cousins interact with our yougsters... It seems that they were just the babies and we were the teens!

I think Kyle might just be our musician, he was a magnet to uncle Adam once he took the guitar out and to Papa Barker when he took the drum out.

Merry Baby Christmas!

Another month has passed and ready or not, Jacob is 5 months!  He is such an observer that all the Christmas lights have been of great interest to him.  I got some pictures of him under the tree... As you know, he was our little gift from heaven this year!!!  He is rolling over and started eating baby cereal and avocados a couple of weeks ago.  Still happy as can be and extremely calm and cuddly!

Silent Night

We got Josh a nativity playset to help him understand the Christmas season better and we never imagined how interested he would be in it!!! For the first few nights after opening it up, he was obsessed with every little detail of it and wanted us to read the story of Baby Jesus over and over. He would set up all the characters up just perfect and then just gaze at it. One evening, as he was supposed to be going to sleep, we found him starring at the nativity with his head rested on his arm supported by his little elbow... we waited and watched to see what would happen and a few minutes later we checked on his an this is what we found:

Big Baby part 2

If the house gets too quiet, we quickly ask ourselves- "Where the heck is Kyle?!".  He is our quiet determined little monkey that will climb and help himself to anything that looks like a great toy for him.  He darts out of the doggie door and thinks it is a game to run to end of the dog run where the stinky trash can is stored and even worse where the stinky doggie poop sits!  He has started to climb on the kitchen counter to get the bananas and has climbed out of crib twice!  He is a little man on a mission to figure things out... Well, this time he was caught in his tracks!  He has attempted to get into this baby jumper for some time, but was unsuccessful and would watch with envy as Jacob bounced around.  He finally made it in before we could stop him, but he didn't realize after he got in, he could not get himself out!

Uncle Anthony, we miss you!

This past week has been a hard one for Mike's family and friends.  His uncle was tragically killed in an auto accident while he was on the job driving his truck cross country.  He is a beloved father, son, brother, uncle & grandfather and will be missed dearly!  Please pray for his grieving family...

Anthony could always make anyone laugh with his stories and outlook on life, he was such a comical character with a bold attitude and heart of gold- your memories are in our hearts!
